Alabama Secular Group to Join the Secular Coalition for America as Second State Affiliate

The State of Alabama can easily be classified as ground zero for numerous conflicts regarding issues relating to the separation of church and state.  From Governor Guy Hunt’s use of state resources for his religious events and Judge Roy Moore’s insistence on a Ten Commandments monument to the religiously divisive comments recently made by newly inaugurated Governor Robert Bentley, the separation of church and state in Alabama is constantly under fire from religious incursion.

Governor Bentley's Comments Validate Formation of Secular Coalition for Alabama

The statements made by Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley at the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church on January 17, 2011 leave secular Alabamians to question the governor's ability to govern impartially and without religious bias.  His statements underscore the need to form a Secular Coalition for Alabama to preserve the separation of church and state and protect the civil rights of all Alabamians regardless of religious preference. The proposed Secular Coalition for Alabama will be the second State affiliate for the Secular Coalition for America. Last year, the Secular Coalition for Arizona became the first.
